The Armenian Genocide Exhibit

The Armenian Museum of America • Watertown, Massachusetts

The Armenian Museum of America is East Coast cultural center for the large Armenian population in Watertown and elsewhere. At the time of its developoment there were no other permanent exhibits itnerperting the first Holocaust of the 20th century. Our team was expertly lead by Barbara Mergurian, and expert in the history of the relief efforts that took place near the end of WW1 to rescue the survivors. Our challenge was to incorporate historic images that did not repel the visitor. Our discussions became heated, other team members wanted to feature the most shocking images. Part of the research involved obtaining high-rez images from estate of Armin T. Wegner, second-lieutenant in the German army stationed in the Ottoman empire in April 1915.

The exhibit walls, artifact case, and media location were determined prior to our engagement. Enlarging featured Wegner photos required careful image enhancement. The official opening of the exhibit in May 2011 was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, performed by the first Armenian Ambassador to the United States (1993-1999), Rouben Shougarian.
