Great day for a road trip! Entered Long Island over the Throgs Neck bridge from Queens around 1:00pn.
The first destination Oyster Bay on the Sound side of the lower Island. It was clear and cold in the Bay, even the Osprey nests were empty. There was one brave soul on an outboard not far from shore at Centre island Beach where I parked, save for someone on an outboard 10 foot aluminum vessel. Â Nest I drove back down, over, and up through Huntington to Target Rock. The isthmus supporting Lloyd Harbor Road featured the spray of icy waves reading from Oyster Bay on the west. Target Rock was a welcoming site with trail maps, brochures, and restroom. Just like Oyster Bay, wealthy landowners ordered the Sanctuary. The Warbler Loop trail had been used since the snow two days ago, the (maybe) Japanese Holly stood out with right green leaf laden branches. No warblers seen. No need for google map to help my find the final Refuge, I picked up my cousin in Islip and she took us to Seatuck Wildlife Refuge. It dramatically borders the long road to Islip Beach and Great South Bay. Several colorful duck flew away as I clambered onto the bed of my truck to take a photo. Tomorrow headquarters, Wertheim!
